About This Course

The Basics of English subject is one of the three components under the CSU Pre-University Intervention Program. This course aims to improve the English Language proficiency of University-bound students from learning the fundamental theories and applications of the English Language to critical grammatical structures necessary for communicative functions and acquisition of adequate vocabulary needed for academic study. The learner will master fundamental grammar concepts and apply this knowledge to written document, oral speaking skills, and the end-course assessments.

	May Rose C. Dorico MA Education with specialization in English Language Teaching - Caraga State University AB in English Language - Father Saturnino Urios University May Rose C. Dorico is a faculty member of the Department of Communication and Humanities. She is a Licensed Professional Teacher and Civil Service Eligible (Professional). Passionate about inspiring young minds, she is dedicated to creating a dynamic and engaging learning environment where students can thrive and develop a deep appreciation for the English language.
	Janine S. Gelaga MA in English Language - Xavier University - Ateneo De Cagayan AB in English - Central Mindanao University Janine S. Gelaga is currently the Associate Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, a position she has held since 2024. She also serves as the Communication Coordinator for the Department of Communication and Humanities since 2023 and previously worked as the Technical Assistant to the Vice President for Academic Affairs from 2019 to 2023. She handles a variety of courses, including Public Speaking, Speech and Theater Arts, Technical Writing, Purposive Communication, and Workplace Communication. Her diverse roles and extensive experience in both administrative and instructional capacities underscore her commitment to fostering effective communication and academic excellence within the university.
	Adamjo G. 	Jeremiah Napone MA in Sociology - Mindanao State University - Iligan Institute of Technology AB in Sociology - Caraga State University Mr. Jeremiah Napone is a young professional with his interests built in the walls of the academe. Being born and raised in a fisherfolk community in Buenavista, Agusan del Norte, Mr. Napone found his love in the social sciences as he earned his Sociology degree at Caraga State University as the first summa cum laude of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences and the first to do it in the entire history of the AB Sociology program of Caraga State University. Throughout his career, Mr. Napone has engaged himself in different research endeavors. His field of interest revolves around grassroots studies, fisherfolk empowerment, gender studies, and community impact assessments.
	Maricel C. Palasan MA in Education major in English Language Teaching (CAR) - Philippine Normal University Mindanao BS in Secondary Education Major in English - Mindanao State University Maricel C. 	Petervir A. Paz, Ph.D PhD in Development Communication - University of the Philippines Los Baños MA in English - St Paul University Master in Public Administration - Caraga State University Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and English - St Peter Seminary Dr. Petervir A. Paz is an accomplished English professor with a Ph.D. in Development Communications. With a strong academic background and extensive experience, he has served as the former NSTP Coordinator of the university, demonstrating leadership and dedication to student development. An active researcher, he has numerous published works that contribute to the field of communications and education.
	Enrique F. Taragua, Ph.D PhD in English Language - University of San Jose Recoletos MA in Educational Management - Saint Joseph Institute of Technology AB English - Saint Joseph Institute of Technology Dr. Enrique F. Taragua is a Licensed Professional Teacher with a rich and diverse academic background. His extensive knowledge and passion for education enable him to create a dynamic and engaging learning environment, inspiring students to excel academically and personally.
	Mark Vincent G. Vergara MS in Development Communication - University of the Philippines - Los Baños AB English - Mindanao State Universiyt Mark Vincent G. Vergara obtained his Master of Science in Development Communication from the University of the Philippines Los Baños in 2022 as a CHED Scholar. Prior to this, he graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in English from Mindanao State University, Marawi City, in 2016. Currently serving as the Chairperson of the Department of Communication and Humanities at Caraga State University, he has held various leadership roles within the institution since 2016. He also served as the Caraga Center for Peace and Development Director and the College Intellectual Property Coordinator for the College of Humanities and Social Sciences.
