About This Course

The Basics of English subject is one of the three components under the CSU Pre-University Intervention Program. This course aims to improve the English Language proficiency of University-bound students from learning the fundamental theories and applications of the English Language to critical grammatical structures necessary for communicative functions and acquisition of adequate vocabulary needed for academic study. The learner will master fundamental grammar concepts and apply this knowledge to written document, oral speaking skills, and the end-course assessments.

Janine S. Gelaga is currently the Associate Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, a position she has held since 2024. She handles a variety of courses, including Public Speaking, Speech and Theater Arts, Technical Writing, Purposive Communication, and Workplace Communication. Being born and raised in a fisherfolk community in Buenavista, Agusan del Norte, Mr. Napone found his love in the social sciences as he earned his Sociology degree at Caraga State University as the first summa cum laude of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences and the first to do it in the entire history of the AB Sociology program of Caraga State University.

Throughout his career, Mr. Napone has engaged himself in different research endeavors. His field of interest revolves around grassroots studies, fisherfolk empowerment, gender studies, and community impact assessments.

Mark Vincent G. Vergara obtained his Master of Science in Development Communication from the University of the Philippines Los Baños in 2022 as a CHED Scholar. Prior to this, he graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in English from Mindanao State University, Marawi City, in 2016. Currently serving as the Chairperson of the Department of Communication and Humanities at Caraga State University, he has held various leadership roles within the institution since 2016. He also served as the Caraga Center for Peace and Development Director and the College Intellectual Property Coordinator for the College of Humanities and Social Sciences.
